Frequently Asked Questions
How does this process work?
After our initial complimentary consultation, I save your place on my calendar for two weeks. After a verbal confirmation of hire, we discuss your options and what choices you'd like to have included in your package and I send you a completed contract. Once I receive that back, along with your deposit, we get our first prenatal session on the calendar!
Will my partner feel left out if I have a doula?
You partner is emotionally invested in you and your baby in ways that I cannot nor should be. My job is not to replace that role but rather to support both of you. Neither of us can be in two places at once either. Having both your partner and a doula ensures you can have both emotional support talking you through and physical support rubbing your back or squeezing your hips at the same time. I work to support both of you through the birth of your child, making suggestions and holding your space.
What kinds of things do you talk about during prenatal session?
Birth & postpartum planning, tools/practice for birth, and preparing your relationship for baby are the main topics covered in prenatal sessions. If you've chosen to include more sessions, we have more time to practice and and become comfortable working together. However, all prenatal sessions are tailored to your needs. Know also that these sessions allow me to get to know you and your partner and how you work together which allows me to do a better job supporting you on the day of.
Do you have a birth philosophy?
My philosophy is to support you in your birth no matter what that looks like and no matter what your choices are. I provide information ahead of time and can talk about your options, but it's your birth! You get to make the right decisions for you and that looks different for every person.
What do those letters after your name mean?
I am a DONA certified birth doula, designated as CD(DONA). That means I have met the certification requirements approved by DONA International. DONA is the oldest, largest, and most respected doula association in the world and is a not-for-profit organization. To keep my certification current, I must continue to grow in my craft and log continuing education hours to be submitted every three years. To learn more about this process and organization, visit DONA International.
What if I decide I don't want a doula?
While the deposit is non-refundable, as it holds your place on my calendar and covers prenatal sessions, the balance is not due until 37 weeks. Should you decide that a doula is not good fit for you, simply don't pay the balance and let me know that you've changed your mind.
